Black Adam was the first mortal to wield the power of Shazam, first appearing in The Marvel Family #1 (1945). Mostly he has been known as Shazam’s foe, but in recent years is has become somewhat of an anti-hero, even being granted membership in the Justice Society of America (before the New 52 continuity).
